Frequently asked

Real questions.
Straight answers.

Questions we get most often, answered without marketing spin.

Properly Australian. Every plan follows the recognised Australian business plan structure, uses AUD pricing with GST considered, references Australian regulators (ASIC, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), CASA, AASB depending on industry), and benchmarks against Australian market data. We don't rebadge US templates.

Fully editable. The Word plan is a .docx with no password or restrictions. The Excel model is a .xlsx with all formulas unlocked - change any assumption and the model recalculates. The PowerPoint is a standard .pptx. You own the files after purchase. The licence is perpetual and grants you full rights to edit, customise, share with your team and advisors, and use for your own business. What it does not permit is reselling or publicly redistributing the templates.

Two options. First, many of our plans transfer well - a home care plan works for allied health, a coworking plan adapts to any membership-based venue. Second, we build custom plans for a fee (typically A$2,500–$8,000 depending on complexity). Get in touch with your industry and we'll quote.

Yes. The recognised Australian business plan structure is what most banks, grant bodies, and SME-focused investors expect to see. Using it signals that you've done your homework.

A what-if scenario testing runs your business 1,000 times under different random combinations of assumptions, then shows you the distribution of outcomes. Instead of “Year 3 operating profit will be $454K,” you get “there's an 80% chance Year 3 operating profit is between $280K and $620K, with a 91.7% probability of profitability overall.” That's the realistic answer to “how likely is this to work?” and it's what investors increasingly want to see. Included with AI Consulting, Mobile App, and select other plans.

Depends on your purpose. For an internal planning exercise, you can use the plan nearly as-is by just updating assumptions. For a bank or investor submission, plan for 3–6 hours of customisation: your name and ABN, your team, your specific differentiation, your particular numbers, and your voice on the narrative. The plan is a high-quality frame that saves the 20–40 hours you'd otherwise spend on structure.

Yes - priced separately to each plan. Every plan is a professional starting point built to Australian standards; if you need to go further, we offer consultancy support as a separate engagement: customising a plan to your real business, working through the financial model with you, pitch rehearsal before investor / lender meetings, and what-if testing workshops on your own assumptions. Priced by engagement at competitive rates. Get in touch for a quote.

We do not sell generic business plans because they do not perform - every industry has its own benchmarks, regulators, unit economics and risk profile. If your industry is not in our ten-industry catalogue, we build the plan with you on a custom engagement.

The first hour of consultancy is on us. Book a free scoping call - we will discuss your business, confirm what a properly built plan would cover for your industry, and quote the engagement. No deliverables, no obligation - genuine advice in the hour, whether you proceed with us or not.

Book your free scoping hour or email info@financialmodels.com.au with your industry and one sentence about what you need.

One hour, by video call. Genuine scoping conversation - not a sales pitch. We cover four things:

  • Your business in plain English. What you do, who you sell to, where the money comes from, what you are trying to achieve with the plan.
  • What a properly built plan looks like for your industry. The specific benchmarks, regulators and unit-economic drivers that should be in your model.
  • Honest assessment of fit. Whether one of our existing ten plans adapts well to your industry, or whether you genuinely need a custom build.
  • A clear quote. If a custom build is the right answer, you leave the call with a written scope and a fixed price. Typical engagements run A$2,500 to A$8,000 depending on complexity.

No deliverables are produced in the free hour - it is a conversation, not modelling work. Any actual building of a plan or financial model is paid from hour two onwards. Whether you proceed is entirely your call.

Absolutely - we encourage it. A second set of eyes on the assumptions is always valuable. The licence permits you to share the files with your team, your advisors, and anyone supporting your business. What it doesn't permit is reselling or publicly redistributing the plans.

Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (2016 or later). Google Docs / Sheets / Slides can also open the files, though some formatting and formulas may display differently. LibreOffice works too. The what-if scenario testing works best in Microsoft Excel because it relies on the random-number formulas Excel uses for the simulations that behave consistently there.

All prices on this site are in AUD and GST-inclusive (Australian Goods and Services Tax, 10%). A tax invoice showing the GST component is emailed with your order confirmation, which you can use for BAS / expense reporting.

Yes. The plans are particularly useful for Australian businesses, but the financial modelling techniques and structure apply globally. International buyers don't pay GST (handled automatically at checkout) and download the same files. We ship digitally to over 140 countries.
